Buddies USA Diner πŸ”

imageOn Wednesday the 6th April, my best friend Emily and I went for dinner at Buddies USA Diner. I had never been there before but Emily had and she suggested that we go. I love American food and I love trying new places so I was all for it.

Whilst there was no need for an excuse to go, Emily has started a new job this week so we turned it into a bit of a celebration. I am so pleased for Emily, I hope she loves her new job!

Buddies is an American themed chain restaurant with nine diners located around the Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire areas in the UK. The diner Emily and I visited is located in Old Stratford, this one is quite small and is right next to a travelodge. When we arrived I expected it to be quiet inside as there didn’t seem to be many cars in the car park, however there were quite a few people inside. There didn’t seem to be much of an atmosphere at this restaurant, but that wasn’t a problem since when you’re in great company there’s not much need to worry about the atmosphere. The decorations and set up are really nice and although busy, for a small restaurant it did not feel crowded and I felt comfortable with the way the tables were spaced out. There are lots of American themed (obviously) decorations / paintings on the wall and they have a TV on the wall which had The Simpsons on mute, they also have music playing for that much needed background ‘entertainment’ which makes a dining experience more enjoyable. The music style is fairly ‘pop’ which is my favourite type to hear whilst at a restaurant. On the wall there is an electric train which choo – choo’s it’s way around the restaurant sporadically, which is fun!

The food at Buddies is so yummy, I am craving it now. Originally I was only going to have a two course meal, but in the end I thought why not get three? The menu is pretty huge and perfect for burger lovers, I of course had a standard cheese burger but if you’re feeling adventurous you can choose between options such as the ‘Shrek’ burger or even the ‘Donut’ burger!

For starters, I ordered cheesy garlic bread. You can choose between mozzarella cheese or cheddar, I chose cheddar. I thought it was really great to be given the choice. When the waitress brought out my starter I was really surprised to see a whole loaf of cheesy garlic bread on the plate, I was expecting 3 or 4 slices. This was one huge starter! I ended up sharing it with Emily, there was no way I could eat it all by myself. Whilst the starter was far too big for one person alone (unless you are doing Man Vs Food) I would definitely get this again and if I ended up having to wrap some of it up and take it home, I would because it’s the best cheesy garlic bread I’ve ever had! It was the percect soft, squidgy, doughy texture with a mountain of melted cheese on top.

Sometimes when I have cheesy garlic bread, the taste of the cheese cancels out the garlic, however this cheesy garlic bread was just perfect as I could still taste the garlic too. I spent the next morning dreaming about this Heavenly starter. Honestly I would go back to Buddies just for this garlic bread.

I ordered a cheeseburger for my main and it came with a big portion of chips and salad. I didn’t eat a lot of this as I was so full up after the huge loaf of garlic bread, but what I did eat tasted so good and I wish I could have finished it.

I decided to have chocolate fudge cake with ice cream for dessert (no surprise there then)! Just like all the other courses, this one was huge. Buddies are clearly very generous with their food, I can guarantee you will leave feeling well fed.

I spent just over Β£20 on this meal. For three courses and a pint of coke, I think that’s a really reasonable amount to pay. Since the portions are so huge, it’s great value for money too and the food tasted really good. I enjoyed everything that I ate, the cheesy garlic bread being my favourite!

It’s not even been a week and I’m already begging my parents to take us out for a family meal at Buddies. Writing this post hasn’t helped, all I can think about is Heavenly American food. The golden fries, the cheesy garlic bread…

If you love American food and you’re in the area, make sure you check out Buddies USA Diner for all the food and all the fun!

  1. I can’t help but laugh at the concept of “American Food” given its simply a blended version of cultural fusion from all the immigrant components of our social structure. When we were in Camden Town a few years back, I ate from the food carts offering some our US cuisine!

      1. In Porto, Portugal there was an “American” store that sold all the processed crap like Spam, Kraft Mac n Cheese, and it was full of people shopping for that “American” experience 😊

  2. Wow, I didn’t even think about the fact that others probably say “I enjoy American food”. May I ask what country your in that has this restaurant? What’s your absolute favorite American meal?

I didn’t think our food over here was very “unique”

    1. Haha, to be honest in day to day life I don’t really refer to it as ‘American’ food, unless someone literally said to me ‘do you like American food’ I wouldn’t really say ‘I love American food’ I would say for example, I love burgers! I dont know, its not something I’ve really thought about before but since it’s an American diner and I guess the food originated in America (burgers and hot dogs anyway) it made sense to refer to it as American food!
I’m from the UK / England.
Now you ask, my favourite American meal would be burgers and fries! ☺️
      It’s interesting isn’t it!?

      1. Very interesting!! Burgers and fries are too common here! They’re in EVERY restaurant, EVERY place you go there is burger n fry meal, I honestly don’t like burgers n fries, don’t get me wrong I’ll smash a good burger any day but prefer, hot wings, pizza, or seafood anyday. I’m located in Maryland so we’re big on Crabs here lol. U.K. Seems awesome, have never been outside of the US, would love too! Will be moving to Canada if Trump gets in office lmfaoπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
