My Favourite Healthy Snacks.

‘Love yourself enough to live a healthy lifestyle.’

Hey guys!!

Today I am going to be talking about my favourite healthy snacks as like many other people, one of my main aims in life is to simply be healthy. These past few months I have been working towards changing my lifestyle to that of more of a healthier one, from exercising regularly to choosing my food more wisely.

Like most people, I absolutely love food and enjoy snacking throughout the day.

As my lifestyle changes and I aim to be more healthy what I want is to be able to snack throughout the day but be smart about it.¬†I don’t have to snack on chocolate everyday, nor do I always have to snack on crisps/biscuits or sweets between meals (although every now and then doesn’t hurt¬†– no food is bad food in moderation)!

As I go about changing my diet for the better, I’ve found a few healthy snack options which work for me to curb any cravings I may have throughout the day and enable me to gain all the nutrients I need to achieve a healthy lifestyle.

Raisins
Everyone I work with can vouch for me on this one, I love raisins and more often than not you can find me on my lunch break with a box of ’em. For me, raisins are a filling, satisfying snack whilst still being nutritional. The chewy, solid texture of raisins is a real winner for me as I feel as though I’m really getting stuck into something but I’m not overloading on anything.

Grapes
Grapes are quite possibly my favourite fruit, I simply love them. I don’t have a preference between red or green grapes as they are both delicious, either or works for me. I love the sweet taste of grapes the most and they are the perfect healthy snack for me because they are just so yummy! The amazing thing about grapes is that even though they are so tasty, they are also really good for you, from containing antioxidants which slow and/or prevent cancer, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, minimizing constipation plus many more health benefits – source.

Sliced Apple
Okay, let me get this straight, if the apple ain’t sliced I ain’t eating it but ooooh when it is sliced then yes, I’m in apple Heaven! Because of the crunchy texture of apples, I find them to be the perfect replacement for crisps and they are also very filling. Sometimes with fruit I find I still feel hungry after snacking, but with apples I don’t get that at all. Along with all other fruit, apples are very nutritious. To find out the top 15 benefits to eating apples¬†click here.

Raw Carrot
Just like apples, raw carrots are a great substitute for crisps because they’re so crunchy plus they’re packed with juicy flavour, literally the perfect snack. One thing I love the most about carrots is how bright they are, as they say the more colourful the food the better it is for you.

Banana
I love to start my day with a banana, they’re healthy and filling and provide me with the right amount of energy to kick start my day. Banana’s are a brilliant snack because they’re tasty, can be combined with all sorts of other foods for dreamy combinations (Nutella and banana being the best) and they contain alllllll of the nutrients! Banana’s help overcome depression, aid weight loss, protect against heart attack, stroke and more. For the 25 powerful reasons you should eat bananas click here.

Rice Cakes
Whilst not as nutritional as all the fruit and veg I’ve listed above and perhaps not considered particularly healthy, I have to include rice cakes on this list because they are my go to for a low calorie snack. You know that time in between lunch and dinner when you’re a little bit peckish but don’t want to over indulge? That’s what rice cakes were made for. My personal favourite are Kallo rice cakes as they are fairly big in size and very crunchy, with just 29 calories per cake even eating four of these is enough to satisfy any cravings. I like to eat my rice cakes with a light spread of butter and marmite on top as marmite is super low in calories (and so delicious too, I’m one of those that can eat marmite straight off the knife).

Weetabix
I just love weetabix and it’s my go to breakfast cereal, I like to let it soak in the milk for a little while before eating so it’s super soggy and refreshing. I don’t ever have fruit with my weetabix as personally fruit mixed with milk just isn’t for me, but it’s great that the options there and you can mix berries and bananas with your weetabix if you wish for a really healthy breakfast. I will also have weetabix with milk as a snack in the evening sometimes if I’m craving something light but filling.

We all get peckish sometimes and it’s important to eat little and often, snacking can always be healthy and nutritional and I hope this post has inspired some ideas in you as to how you can eat healthier and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

You don’t have to eat less, you just have to eat right.

Oops I Did It Again… (Another LUSH Haul).

So someone may have gone a little bit mad in Lush again…

That someone being me! Call me obsessed, I’m guilty as charged but I just can’t help myself, it’s impossible not to leave Lush without breaking the bank a little bit and my latest visit was no different.

I went into store for one item, came out with six. What’s new?

It seems I’m all about the bubble bars at the moment as I bought four, two of which being the beautiful Unicorn Horn. I picked up two of these as being part of the Valentine’s Day collection, they’ll soon be unavailable to buy. In all honesty I could have bought way more than two of these to keep me stocked up for the rest of the year, but thankfully for my bank balance Emily managed to stop me.

16924196_1220545174707355_234046372_n

I’ve seen lots of pictures and videos of the Ladybug bubble bar online so when I saw them in store I knew I had to have one. This little bubble bar is designed to look like a ladybird (obvs) and is the cutest little thing I ever did see. Ladybirds are probably the prettiest insects out there and I’m loving the red and purple colours of this product! I’ve never used this bubble bar before and as it’s part of the Valentine’s Day collection I’m going to attempt to savour it a little while, but I don’t know how long I’ll be able to wait before I use it because I’m really excited to.

The Comforter is the last of my bubble bar purchases and oh my goodness I am too excited to use this. Again, this is another product I’ve never used before but one I’ve heard such good things about. I’m surprised it’s taken me this long to finally get round to buying one as I believe it’s quite a classic / popular product. The big selling point for me with The Comforter is the gorgeous blackcurrant scent, I have heart eyes right now just thinking about it (I’m also feeling kinda thirsty for ribena now too).

16976855_1220545231374016_1118391661_n

Onto bath bombs now, I found a real gem called Ups-A-Daisy, a bright and vibrant flower shaped (or¬†cog shaped product if you choose to look at it that way ha ha)¬†product which makes¬†me feel cheerful just by looking at it. This is part of the Mothers Day collection and I’m really looking forward to using this one because it looks so fun yet calming.

The last product I treated myself to is the Over and Over bath bomb. This is a take it or leave it kind of product for me, I like the brightness of it but it doesn’t excite me so much as some of the others do however when I saw it in store I thought, hey why not give it a go? Maybe it will surprise me and end up being one of my favourites, we’ll soon find out.

I am so happy with all my new Lush products and really excited to use them. I think overall the product I’m most excited for is the Ladybug bubble bar, it’s so cute and looks like it will make for the loveliest bath. Of course I am loving my Unicorn Horns too, as they are the bubbliest of bubble bars ever!!

Have you ever tried any of the products featured in this haul? What’s your favourite Lush bubble bar? Let me know in the comments!

Thank you for reading,

love,

Jennie.

Shopaholic Sunday / Burberry, ASOS, Smashbox + More.

As a self confessed shopaholic, I’ve decided to start a new series here on the blog called ‘Shopaholic Sunday’, where on the last Sunday of every month I do a massive haul of all my favourite items I picked up that month.

We’re coming to the end of Feb now, so today I will be sharing with you all my favourite things I have purchased this month and there have been quiteeee a few.

Starting with my Burberry boots, which I kind of shouldn’t include because technically I bought these in January but I’m going to include them anyway because hello?! Burberry! I had my eye on the flat version of these boots for literally months before finally taking the plunge and heading to a Burberry store to purchase them, however when I tried them on I wasn’t so keen. Then I saw the heeled ones,¬†which are the ones I ended up buying, as once I’d tried them on and had a walk about in them I was in love!! These are the perfect boots and are probably now the nicest shoes I own!! These boots can be paired with everything, from leggings to skirts to pretty little dresses, I virtually live in these boots now. Decorated with the classic Burberry pattern, I feel so amazing every time I wear them! I couldn’t be happier and I’m so pleased I decided to buy these.

imageNow onto what I bought this month…

I picked up quite a few clothing pieces this month, including a gorgeous black¬†pleather skirt with floral pattern from Zara, a beaut simple black playsuit with pom pom detail from ASOS and my personal favourite – a gorgeous golden velvet floaty crop top from ASOS, when I wear this I feel like Belle from Beauty and the Beast, it’s so beautiful! It’s funny because this top is one I ordered randomly and wasn’t overly excited about purchasing, a take it or leave it kind of thing, but now I’ve got it I’m in love and want to wear it every day.

I love skincare, so this month I made sure to pick up lots of new products to try including the L’Oreal Pure Clay Purity Wash and Detox Wash, a L’Oreal Triple Active day cream and a NO7 Beautiful Skin night cream. I’m going to do a skincare routine post soon featuring these products so I won’t ramble on too much about them, but I am really pleased with all of these skincare products.

This month I finally bought the ‘Ablaze‘ eyeshadow palette from Smashbox which is one I’ve had my eye on since it came out. This is now probably the coolest eyeshadow palette I own. The shades included are the best for a dramatic, smoky, fiery look including a gorgeous bold red and a pretty golden orange.

I also bought a new lipstick from Max Factor in the shade ‘Blush‘, this lipstick is from Max Factor’s new full matte range and I’m in love. Blush is a gorgeous deep yet bright pink shade and really brightens up my face when I wear it. Not only is the colour of this lipstick so nice, but the texture is lush too, being a full matte but still moisturising. What more could a gal want?

Now it wouldn’t be a haul without some Lush products thrown in would it? As always, I spent a small fortune on Lush products this month and again, there will be a seperate haul on all the Lush goodies I bought coming soon so I’m just going to share a picture here of the two Unicorn Horn bubble bars I purchased! You’ll have to keep a look out for my next haul to see what else I got. ūüėČ

image.jpegOnto books – I bought two books this month! The first one being ‘The Wish List’ by Jane Costello, one of my favourite authors. I’ve already finished this book because I enjoyed it so much I couldn’t put it down, I was reading it before bed and whilst on my lunch breaks at work!

image

I also picked up a copy of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, as I really want to read more classics and be a proper literature buff. I have actually started reading this book before through an app on my phone, but I’d always get a couple of chapters in then have to delete the app due to low storage space (lol). I prefer hard back copies of books to ebooks anyway, so I’m pleased to finally have a proper copy of this story and I am so excited to read it, I have a feeling it’s going to be a good’un.

image

I bought some amazing things this month and I am so happy with all my purchases. I am just loving all my new clothes, my wardrobe is on fleek right now. Obviously the Burberry boots have to be my favourite purchase of them all, but really I’m a lucky gal and happy with everything!

What bits and pieces have you treated yourselves too this month? What’s your favourite item from this haul? Let me know in the comments below.

Thank you for reading,

love,

Jennie.

The Law Of Attraction Works.

16976235_1220581801370359_1269796380_nHi guys!!

I am literally buzzing right now and I just have to share the reason why here on the blog immediately.

As some of you may know I am a huge believer in the Law Of Attraction / The Secret and I have written blog posts all about it before, two of which you can read here and here.

The LOA is something I practice daily and today I experienced something which reaffirmed my beliefs and made me so happy.

Whilst at work today I was chatting to the girls about The Secret, as it’s something we all believe in and like to practice. I saw a girl who I thought looked familiar but I couldn’t put a face to a name and it was really bugging me. I knew that eventually it would come to me and I would remember where I knew her from, but I wanted to know right that instant. I imagined myself remembering who she was and telling my friends excitedly that I’d remembered. Literally two seconds later I knew exactly who she was and I was buzzing, I told the girls I work with it had come to me thanks to the Law Of Attraction and we were all buzzing.

But brilliant as that is, that’s not the really¬†amazing part of the story. That’s yet to come…

After the LOA worked for me with something so small, I thought to myself visualise more!!! There is nothing too big or too small when it comes to the LOA so I had no doubts in my mind that whatever I asked for would come to me. What I’ve really been wanting the most lately is¬†for my family to book up a holiday to Italy,¬†I’ve printed out pictures of my desired location for my vision board and set a picture of¬†the location¬†as my phone background for easy visualisation everyday. Today¬†after¬†the LOA had worked so easily for me, I decided¬†to visualise coming home from work to my Dad telling me he’d booked up our holiday to Italy.

Like I said, I had no doubts in my mind that this would manifest and afterwards I didn’t even think about my visualisation. In fact, I forgot all about it. I got on with my day and when my Dad picked me up from work we chatted and laughed as usual.

I placed my order to the Universe, trusted it was¬†on it’s¬†way¬†and didn’t think anything more of it.

When I¬†arrived home this evening my Dad said that before he cooked dinner he wanted to show me something on his email, so I said sure okay!! What he proceeded to show me was the best thing ever…

A BOOKING CONFIRMATION FOR A HOLIDAY TO ITALY!

Amazing amazing amazing!!! I am the happiest girl ever!!!

As soon as my Dad had showed me this email, I messaged the girls from work to tell them my story. Honestly¬†I think I’m slightly more buzzing about the fact my simple visualisation manifested so quickly more than I am to go to Italy ha ha ha. Just kidding, I have dreamed of a family holiday to Italy since I first found out the place existed so I am thrilled and can not wait!!

This is the best year ever and it’s all thanks to the Law Of Attraction!!!

If anyone wants to learn more about the Law Of Attraction / The Secret I urge you to click here, read the book, watch the movie and live the life of your dreams.

I am so thankful to The Secret and the Law Of Attraction for enabling me to live the best life ever.

Have you read The Secret? Do you practice the Law Of Attraction? Let me know in the comments below!

Thank you for reading,

love,

Jennie.

Meet My Best Friend(s) – 52 Week Challenge.

“Dear best friend, please stay in my life forever because you’re one of the best things to ever happen to me, love me”

16586654_1203398863088653_596487192_o

Hello everyone! Today I have finally decided to start on¬†Jenny and Britts¬†52 Week Blog Challenge and I’m sat over here wondering why it’s taken me so long to join in but finally, here I am involving myself! I am so excited to participate in this challenge because all the prompts are fun / creative / interesting and I have to confess I do love a good ol’ ramble, so taking part in this challenge seems like the perfect opportunity for me to have a natter.

52Week.png

Today’s theme is ‘Meet My Best Friend’, which is a great one to start with because my besties are amazing and obviously any opportunity I have to rave about them I’ll grab with both hands.

15592113_1157615087667031_988582100_n
My Squad. Chantal, Emily, Daisy, my main girls.

These three gals bring so much joy to my life and I love them so much, we always have the best times together from nights out to day trips to dinners to breakfasts and everything else in between.

I have been best friends with Emily for virtually my whole life, since I was 5 and she was 4 (aw, babies)! We met when my family and I moved to the area and I started at the same school as her. As I had moved a bit later on in the school year Emily already had a best friend, but I soon intervened when as Emily has told me, I drew her a picture of a Mr Men character and her bestie at the time a picture of a poo… I was such a lovely child!

16923648_1218776328217573_1753873212_n

My artistic ways clearly worked as Emily and I have been close ever since, having been best friends for 17 years now! Isn’t that so amazing? That’s a whole lifetime and I only hope that our friendship remains solid for the next 17 years and then the 17 after that.

Emily is so special to me and our friendship means so much to me, she has always been there for me through every situation good and bad, from cheering me up when I’ve been down about my ex, helping me out and modelling for me at my end of year college show to making sure I got my favourite limited edition YSL blusher brush in Paris (the sales lady tried telling me they didn’t have any in stock until Emily kindly pointed out a brand new one in the drawer).

I love Emily because she is kind, compassionate, thoughtful, considerate, funny, chatty and a brilliant person to be around. We have so many amazing memories together which are just the beginning Рwe have so much more to look forward to including our holiday to Disney World Florida. YAY!!!!!!

Then there’s¬†Chantal, who although we went to school together, we didn’t¬†become friends until a couple of years ago thanks to Emily! Emily & Chantal went to college together and we all ended up working together at Primark, so the friendship grew from there. I always think it’s so amazing that although I didn’t become friends with Chantal until about 4 years ago, it feels like we have been friends forever and I couldn’t imagine my life without her!

12036460_857836474311562_9174900807460953777_n

Chantal is one of the most laid back people I know, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her angry and barely ever even annoyed. She’s fun, spontaneous, has the best stories and oh my goodness, her one liners just crack me up, she is so funny!!

Chantal is also one of the most generous, supportive and helpful people I know and in my opinion those are some of her best qualities.

Chantal is a great girl who I am so thankful to have as part of my amazing friendship group and I hope our friendship lasts forever.

Last but by no means least¬†is Daisy. Daisy worked at Primark alongside myself, Emily and Chantal so I’ve known her for a few years now and in that time I feel like our friendship has grown from strength to strength! We have had a couple of ups and downs in the past but the important thing is we’ve gotten through them and now I feel like our friendship is so much stronger because of them.

16507656_1203398749755331_842823903_n

Daisy’s one of the funniest people I know¬†and it’s guaranteed that if she’s around there will be the best banter.

Daisy makes me laugh so much, she’s so much fun to be around and I love spending time with her! She’s positive, giggly and¬†brings a good energy with her wherever she goes.

Daisy is also very loyal, trustworthy and understanding making her such a wonderful friend to have.

I absolutely love Daisy and I am so happy to have her as a friend.

Emily, Chantal and Daisy are the three best friends anyone could ask for and I am so thankful to have them as a part of my life, they fill my world with so much happiness and joy, thanks to them my life is so brilliant. I love my girls so much and I am so proud of all of them, I’m so excited to see what the future holds for us all as individuals and as a group!

We have so many things to look forward to together and I can’t wait to make more memories with the squad.

“Best friends are the people in life that make you laugh a little louder, smile a little brighter and live a little better”

50 Shades Darker – My Thoughts On The Movie.

*WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS*

After a long two years, 50 Shades Darker is officially out at the cinema and last night the girls and I took a trip to the movies to see it.

16754456_1209657599129446_776039623_n

Let me just say, the wait was worth it.

50 Shades Darker was amazing and in my opinion, it was so much better than the first film in the trilogy.

Action packed, fast paced and with the perfect mix of romance, sex and drama, there wasn’t a dull moment during this film and I was hooked from start to finish.

It’s been a good few years since I read 50 Shades Darker and whilst the story wasn’t fresh in my mind, there were bits and bobs of the plot that I remembered and I felt excited every time something happened which prompted my memory, I would think¬†‘oh my goodness, I remember this from the books’ or ‘yes, I know what’s going to happen next and I can’t wait’.

In my opinion I found the plot of the movie highly entertaining and as expected there were many graphic sex scenes (I wouldn’t necessarily recommend watching this one with your parents guys), but there was also so much more to the story than just sex.

The film gave us a deeper insight to Christian’s life and why he is how he is, why he likes the dom/sub lifestyle and why he likes to have control. We meet the character ‘Mrs Robinson’/Elena, the woman who first introduced Christian to the BDSM lifestyle. She proves to be against Christian’s relationship with Ana and the two women become somewhat enemies as Elena attempts¬†to tell Ana to stay away from Christian.

yahoo
Here’s to you Mrs Robinson. Photo: Yahoo

We learn more about Christian’s past which includes him opening up to Ana about his birth mother being a drug addict and overdosing when he was a child. The scenes where Christian confides in Ana about his life and emotions were some of my favourite in the film and made me feel all the feels, I thought they were very sweet and well done and showed a more sensitive side of someone who you may assume to be a very heartless man, played brilliantly by Jamie Dornan.

Onto the more dramatic side of the film, we had Christian’s stalker ex¬†Leila who genuinely had me creeped out especially when Ana found her lurking in her apartment with a gun. I knew it was coming but when Leila fired a shot past Ana¬†I literally jumped out of my seat. She definitely added the thrill factor to the movie.

31C98C0900000578-3474059-image-a-79_1456971695640.jpg
Christian’s ex, Leila. Photo: Daily Mail

And if that wasn’t enough we have Ana’s seedy boss Jack Hyde who is an absolute creep. Jack appears to have a ‘romantic’ interest in Ana and when she rejects his advances he¬†is furious¬†and Christian, rightfully so,¬†gets him fired.¬†Leading¬†to an angry and revengeful Mr. Hyde, a story perfectly set up for the next film in the series¬†(as noted at the end of Darker, where we see Jack looking across at a happy Ana and Christian with anger and darkness in his eyes).

On a lighter note, I really enjoyed Rita Ora’s appearances in the film. Rita played the character of Christian’s sister Mia.¬†Mia played a larger role in this film than she did in Shades Of Grey and I felt she was a breath of fresh air. I especially enjoyed the scenes between her and Ana as it was lovely to see Ana interact with people other than Christian and her work colleagues.

One of the best things about 50 Shades Darker was how beautifully edited it was and the beautiful soundtrack which accompanied it, I thought all the music used throughout the film was perfect.

My all time favourite scene in the movie has to be the yacht scene. I thought it was so beautiful and lovely to see Ana and Christian having fun together, just being. This scene showed us a more romantic side of Christian and a more¬†carefree side¬†to Ana. I loved Christian’s little story he made up about the house Ana pointed out on the cliff, again showing a more human side to him. To make the scene more perfect was the music which accompanied it – Taylor Swift and Zayn’s ‘I Don’t Want To Live Forever’, an absolutely beautiful song which fit the atmosphere of the scene perfectly. I could watch this scene over and over again!

Being honest, as¬†‘sexy’ as the film was I just have to throw in that¬†there was one scene in particular which had me cracking up due to the ‘cheese’ factor – the ‘workout’ scene. When Ana woke up to find Christian working out in his gym, I couldn’t help but laugh, that pommel horse was too much!

Overall I thought the film was brilliant, ending with a gorgeous engagement between Christian and Ana only darkened ever so slightly by the appearance of nasty Jack Hyde watching them as they celebrate. Setting up for the next film perfectly, I can’t explain how excited I am for 50 Shades Freed which is thankfully coming out next year so we have just 12 months to wait this time, yay!

I really enjoyed 50 Shades Darker and would go as far to give this film a 5* rating, I’m really looking forward to watching this movie again. I would say 50 Shades Darker is the best film I have seen this year so far and I would definitely recommend it.

Have you seen 50 Shades Darker? What did you think of the movie?

Thank you for reading.

Love,

Jennie.
