The Best Books I Read In 2020

Hello, beautiful loved one,

how are you today?

If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you will know that I am a big fan of reading. I love books, both fiction & non fiction, and reading is one of my favourite hobbies. I love exploring new worlds, learning through books, experiencing something different, and just diving into another world, someone else’s life, another story. Books are pure magick, and I adore reading so much.

In 2020, I was honoured enough to read plenty of wonderful books, so today I wanted to share with you my yearly book wrap up, something which I intend to do every year from now on. In today’s post, I want to share with you my favourite books that I read in 2020, both fiction & non fiction.

I hope you enjoy these recommendations, and that you gain something beautiful from this post!

Enjoy.

The Best Books I Read In 2020

*POTENTIAL SPOILERS THROUGHOUT

Ghosted – Rosie Walsh

‘Ghosted’, also known as ‘The Man Who Didn’t Call’ is easily one of the best fiction books I have ever read, it’s gripping, intriguing, and surprising. It’s completely not ‘what you see is what you get’, you may think it’s a story about a girl who has been Ghosted but it’s so much more than that, there are amazing, surprising plot twists and I love how unpredictable this book is. I shared my thoughts on this book originally when I first read it, which I’m going to share with you here too. It’s not a proper review, but it may give you a deeper insight into what I loved about this book and why it’s made this list –

‘5 out of 5. Suspenseful and gripping. Romance chick lit with an edge. Moving, had me in tears. Emotional and exciting. Connect with the characters. Surprising plot twists, had me thinking I knew what was going to happen but then I’d be completely in awe when I realised it wasn’t what I was thinking at all. Lovely settings. Interesting back stories. Well written. Told from two points of view with three different parts. One of the best books I’ve read in a long time. Don’t want to put it down when reading, gripping. 100% recommend!’

I really enjoyed reading this book, and I definitely intend to re-read it in the future. I highly recommend if you’re looking for a good novel to get lost in, ‘Ghosted’ is that book!

The Night Circus – Erin Morgenstern

This is one of the most magickal books that I have ever read, and if you’re looking for romance and magick, this book is for you. It’s completely enchanting and like nothing I have ever read before, it takes genius to write such a clever, remarkable masterpiece and this book will transport you to a completely different story, filled with magick, yet that charm of ‘real world’. This book is set in the ‘real world’ as we know it, but it’s the hidden magick, the secret magick, that adds to its charm. I love this book, and as I always say, the day they make this book into a film will be wonderful. I dream of playing Celia, and I hope I do!

The Path To The Sea – Liz Fenwick

Reflecting on the books I read in 2020, when I see this novel, I think of a comforting, charming story which warms your heart – one of those books, that lives in you almost. It’s simply comforting, and that’s why this book has made this list. I love the setting of this book along with the atmosphere, set along the Cornish Coast, again, it’s just very comforting. The story is intriguing and mysterious, there is character growth, there is sorrow and there is heartbreak and ultimately *Spoiler alert, there’s a bittersweet but happy ending, and that’s why I like this book. It’s just comfort, the perfect Summer holiday read!

My One True North – Milly Johnson

This was the first book of Milly’s that I read, and I truly loved everything about it. Trigger Warning, the subject of this book is about grief and the two main characters Pete and Laurie losing their romantic partners. Although such a moving subject, I believe Milly Johnson wrote about this beautifully, and she handled the subject well.

This book was absolutely gripping, being told from two different perspectives, what was enjoyable about this book was how we as the reader could make out the connection between the two main characters before they could, so it was exciting to read in anticipation as to when they would find out for themselves how they were connected. I would like to share my original review of this book here in this blog post too, so I will paste it below –

‘What a beautiful book. I believe this is the first book by Milly Johnson that I have read, and I enjoyed it so much I without a doubt will be reading more of her work – potentially every single book she has put out. I look forward to it.
‘‘My One True North’ is a touching romance novel which covers the topic of grief. Laurie and Pete have both lost their partners, and the book follows them as they navigate the grieving process and join a grief support group. This therefore naturally makes the book very emotional and hard hitting, yet it has such light hearted moments and beauty, it truly is a masterpiece.
I love the Spiritual side to this book, the way fate takes its hand and *spoiler alert* the beautiful ending. Whilst I knew the ‘big secret’ from the start (it’s pretty obvious in my opinion, I’m sure we are meant to know), it was so exciting to read on and see how the story unfolds in the life of the characters. I knew, but it was gripping to read on to wait until the characters knew, you know?
I loved the personal growth the characters experienced in this story, the journey they took, the love, the friendship, the support. Milly has written a fantastic novel and whilst emotional, I do think this is such a beautiful read.
I’d rate it a 4.5 out of 5.’

The Starless Sea – Erin Morgenstern

If a book was a beautiful lullaby, ‘The Starless Sea’ would be that… this could be one of the most beautiful, poetic pieces of literature I have ever read and Erin Morgenstern is a dreamy, dreamy writer. Before we go any further, I will say, don’t expect a big ending from this book, in my eyes, there is no grand conclusion, no wow moment, no a-ha moment or anything like that, and admittedly, sometimes the book can be a little slow and you just want to know what happens next but honestly, none of that really matters in the grand scheme of how beautiful this book is. The imagery is fantastic and magickal, I can see it now, you are transported to a different, magickal world with this book and I really, really want to read this again as I think I’ll discover more from this even on the second read. Maybe what I missed from the first read, will become clearer to me in the second. I see a magickal world when I think of this book, time and fate, the moon and of course, ‘The Ballad Of Simon And Eleanor’ wow. This book is POETRY. If you’re looking for something beautiful to read, read ‘The Starless Sea’.

You Are A Badass – Jen Sincero

I highly recommend this book, and again I am going to share with you the review I originally wrote when I first read this book as honestly, I couldn’t have said it better myself… oh wait 😉 hehe. Enjoy my thoughts!

‘I’ve been reading this book for the past couple of months (at least) and I finally finished it! Oh my, what a book!!! ‘You are a Badass’ is one of the most empowering, motivational and awesomest books I have ever read and it has swiftly become a book I will highly highly recommend, along with my favourite book that I recommend always ‘The Alchemist’ by Paulo Coelho, ‘You are a Badass’ has joined this league.
‘You Are A Badass’ is an awesome read, and I’ve folded over almost every single page where I’ve just been in awe at what I’m reading. ‘Yes’, ‘yes’ and ‘yes’ again are words that kept running through my mind as I read this, and before even being close to finishing this book I was telling people how amazing it is, how it’s a must read. This book will empower you SO much, it will show you different perspectives, the best perspectives in my opinion. This life is yours for the taking, own your awesomeness and LIVE IT.
Please read this book, you will LOVE it.
Rating – 5/5′

As you can see, I highly recommend this book and think it’s one of the ultimate’s for Badassery (duh), finding your personal power, owning who you are and your life and believing in you, and embodying confidence. This book will level up your confidence in yourself and in life, it will help you take back your power because You deserve to live your best life, and only you can do that for you. Enjoy!

The Secret – Rhonda Byrne

I will always recommend this book, and I re-read this for what I think is the third time in 2020, as I said in my original review it could even have been the fourth re-read. It’s one I’ll keep coming back to as a refresher, as this is a powerful book which first got me into the Law Of Attraction. Re-reading this reminds you of the basics of the Law Of Attraction, what there is to it, and how we can manifest anything we desire. I love love love ‘The Secret’, and I will forever recommend it to awaken others to their own personal power, ‘The Secret’ is a must read.

The Mastery Of Love – Don Miguel Ruiz

This is hands down one of the best books I have ever read, it’s incredible.

I learned and gained SO MUCH from this book, that I want to keep re-reading it again to continue with this knowledge, to deepen my insight. This book is fantastic.

This book almost takes on a tough love approach, it’s all about how we are responsible for how we feel, for how we love, not expecting others to fulfil us, that we create Union with others, we take responsibility for our own feelings and happiness, so that when we connect with others it’s pure unconditional bliss, you find more beauty in your relationships, as the relationship is about Heaven, it’s not about needing someone else to fulfil you, you’re enhancing one anothers lives of course, but your happiness is not in their hands. Trigger warning* this book discusses hard topics such as rape.

This book is easily one of my favourite books ever and I absolutely adore it, I highly highly recommend as it allows us to find the love within our own selves, in order to radiate that out towards the world and find happiness in our own hearts, and create Heaven on Earth.

From ‘The Mastery Of Love’ – Don Miguel Ruiz

5 out of 5, I definitely intend and look forward to reading more of Don Miguel Ruiz’ work!
