‘The Biggest Book Haul You’ll Ever See’ – My Thoughts On What I Purchased & Read

Hey my loves, How are you today? I recently discovered an old blog post of mine ‘the biggest book haul you’ll ever see’. I shared this in August 2020, and I thought it would be fun to reflect on this and see which books I have read from this haul, and share my thoughts on them. With that being said, here we have my post ‘the biggest book haul you’ll ever see, my thoughts on what I purchased and read’. Bare in mind we also have another book haul coming soon which I think may top the 21 books (I’ve not counted them yet though so we’ll see 😉), but for now, please enjoy this reflection post!!!! Reviews may contain spoilers!

‘The Biggest Book Haul You’ll Ever See | My Thoughts’

reviews may contain spoilers and trigger warnings!

Homegoing – Yaa Gysasi

So I actually wrote a review of this book last year at the end of Jan 2021 but I never actually shared it. My initial thoughts were fantastic, the author of this book – Yaa Gyasi is very talented and this book actually opened my eyes up a lot to things I didn’t necessarily understand before. Really insightful. The reason I didn’t share my original review is because after a week or so, after I’d settled into having finished the book, I realised it was actually a really difficult read emotionally. I mean, I’m sure with the topics discussed, it’s not supposed to be easy, but it was quite hard on the emotions – you’d definitely need something a little more light-hearted afterwards. Take it easy with this one, it’s definitely a page turner, but be gentle with yourself whilst reading too. I was intending on sharing the original review I wrote for this book here in this blog post, but I can’t find it now. Some things are meant to stay hidden – Ok I’ve been watching too much Pretty Little Liars lol.

Taking A Chance On Love – Erin Green

Despite the fact I wrote ‘I may have to read this asap’ about this book, I have not yet read this 😅 I’m sure I will soon, as I’m in the mood for something like this. I also took the fact that I looked at this picture of the book today as a sign to follow my crush on insta 😛 why not?

*update I followed and he followed back, 2022 is the year of the WINSSSSSSSS!

Queenie – Candice Carty-Williams

Read and reviewed here 🙂 *Post includes Spoilers!!!

The Proposal – Jasmine Guillory

Not read yet! Have you read it?

The Boyfriend Project – Farrah Rochan

Read and enjoyed 🙂

Conjure Women – Afia Atakora

I started reading this I think at some point last year, I got a couple or so chapters in from what I remember but wasn’t vibing with it at the time. I know when the time is right for me to read this, it will happen. After re-reading my thoughts from the haul, I read that it was recommended to read this book consistently, rather than having gaps between picking it up, so I can remember this for next time!

The Yorkshire Pudding Club – Milly Johnson

Girl, Woman, Other – Bernardine Evaristo

Not read yet!

The Magnificent Mrs Mayhew – Milly Johnson

Read and loved! This is my review from my Insta stories

A Year In The Château – Sarah Long

I started reading this but never finished it!

The Mummy Bloggers – Holly Wainwright

This book is actually outrageous, despite the shocking dramatics of it with some potentially quite triggering topics – I don’t want to give away any spoilers so message me if you need – this is unreal. Despite the dramatics of this book, I don’t even know what to say when I look back 😂😂😂 shocking (in a humorous way). I feel like a word that this book embodies is chaos. Not the writing, but the storyline. Love it.

The Morning After The Wedding Before – Laura Ziepe

Not read yet

The Two Lives Of Louis & Louise – Julie Cohen

Not read yet!

Mindful Journaling Rewrite The Script Of Your Life – Tara Ward

Not done too much with this yet, perhaps I’ll pick it up over the next few days and have a journal 🙂

An American Marriage – Tayari Jones

Not yet read!

It’s Raining Men – Milly Johnson

Not read yet

Awakening – Rebel Miller

Read and LOVED! I hadn’t really read much fantasy / sci-fi fiction before this but I fell in love. This one really sparked my imagination and had me hooked. I’ve since read the second book in the series and I have the third one ready to read whenever I feel called!! – You can read more of my thoughts on this book here. *Potential Spoilers in this post!

I Wanna Be Where You Are – Kristina Forest

Read. This is a cute read.

Just My Luck – Adele Parks

Read this and loved it, a proper gripping read. Trigger warning the book does get quite dark, but it’s so good. I read a few reviews afterwards and my thoughts slightly differ to the majority of the reviews I read, I did write my thoughts down but they’re on an old phone and I don’t have access to them now. But there was a quote or some line in the book at some point that to me, I took as great foreshadowing for the end. I also want to point out that in my opinion this book should not be viewed as a ‘be careful what you wish for’ or ‘you think you want to win the lottery? Think again’ type of thing and I don’t believe this book should give you that viewpoint (as a lot of reviews have mentioned it’s given), this is a fun fictional book that’s an entertaining read with a fantastic and exciting plot, BUT winning the lottery can be a wonderful and marvellous experience. May we choose to see prosperity, good wealth and positive abundance and money in a positive light, as that is how we create more of it in our lives and the lives of people we love. Anyway, great read, would recommend (despite the trigger warnings of course)!

The Mastery Of Love – Don Miguel Ruiz

Absolutely loved this book. I’ll leave a screenshot from my insta review here. I’m definitely going to re-read it at some point soon 🙂

A Village Affair – Julie Houston

Ah I forgot I had read this book until this post prompted me hehe. I liked this book. There was the odd thing or so that made me a little uncomfortable and that I didn’t think was necessary (a line about immigrants that was out of line and didn’t seem to tie into the plot or character who said it at all, just so unnecessary) and also I remember thinking there were some slightly old fashioned views in there however, I persevered with this book and I’m glad I did. A good read.

So overall I have read 11 out of the 21 books in this haul. That’s pretty good!
