Matilda 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

I’ve just finished watching the film ‘Matilda’, which if you haven’t seen it, is a classic family / childhood film about a smart young girl who is treated very poorly by her family, she attends a school which is run by the most awful headmistress but luckily she has a wonderful teacher, Miss Honey, who treats her with all the kindness in the world. Oh, and most importantly, Matilda has magical powers!

This is one of those films that’s loveable at any age, I remember watching it often as a child and I still enjoy watching it now as an adult. Matilda has been turned into a theatrical production too, and I am very excited as my sister has bought us tickets to go and see the show at the end of this month. Not only am I looking forward to seeing the stage version of Matilda, I am looking forward to spending quality time with my sister who is also my best friend. I am blessed and grateful to have a sibling who loves me, unlike Matilda who is always getting picked on by her mean older brother. 😔

Watching Matilda really makes me realise how lucky I am to have parents and siblings who love and care for me. Poor Matilda only ever gets shouted at by her family and she is a victim in her own home. It’s scary and sad to think that whilst Matilda is only a movie, there are genuinely children out there who are being treated like this by people who are supposed to love them. I’ll never understand why people have kids if they don’t want to take care of them, or if they are just going to neglect them or get angry with them for getting in the way.

Everyone deserves to feel loved and it’s everyones right to have a happy upbringing.

Although Matilda doesn’t have the best homelife, she is strong and kind to everyone and has a nice group of school friends who she spends time with sometimes and she also spends lots of happy moments with her teacher, Miss Honey.

Fortunately, Matilda has a happy ending, as Miss Honey adopts Matilda so she doesn’t have to leave for Guam with her family. It’s so heartwarming to see Matilda’s face light up with a huge smile as her parents sign the adoption paper, she know she’s finally going to have a happy family unit. Although it was sad to see her parents so easily give her away to Miss Honey. Even though it was for the best for Matilda as she found the happy home which she deserves, I feel sad that her own parents didn’t love her enough if at all to give her the life she deserved in the first place.

Adoption is something I’ve always thought about doing, sometime in the distant future. I would love to be able to help a child who is already on this Earth by bringing them into a home full of love and happiness. Matilda really makes me see what a difference adoption can make, as she went from being in an unhappy, lonely environment to one filled with love and care and she was finally happy and smiling all the time. I would love to be able to make a difference to someone’s life in that way.
